How to Help

At this time, we have established the following programs:

Sponsorship

With a monthly contribution of the amount you choose, become a member of ANIDAN and participate in the full attention offered to our children. From here, you will contribute to maintaining all the programs. The sponsors form the essential foundation of our existence, the guaranty that, no matter what, we will continue to help. Become a sponsor and insure the duration of the Shelter. We will send you information periodically regarding the development of the project as well as the integration of all the boys and girls to the Shelter. If you wish, you can also contribute your ideas and suggestions as to improving our work.

Projects in need of financing

You can help finance or contribute funds in order to carry out the following projects at the Lamu Shelter:

Additional dormitories

Thanks to the support and hopes of many of our sponsors and friends, we soon anticipate to begin building an addition to the dormitories, which is badly needed. We opened an entry for this purpose and will begin building as soon as we have reached 40,000€.

For a decent settlement

Many of the newcomers settle on land from where they are forced to leave time and again. The lack of resources joins the precariousness of the shantytowns and the result is the huts are never adequately conditioned since they are always provisional.

We are expecting a donation of land to Anidan in order to build a liveable space for the neediest. An area with wells of drinking water and other basic installations. We will help them to build dwellings which will not flood in the monsoon and have adequate hygiene.

We will begin to build once we have a fund of 60,000€.

The contribution of companies is vital for these desperate people, however, any amount matters for this fund.

Trade classrooms and workshops

Once they finish primary school, the majority of our youngsters will have to go to work but we don’t want them to so without learning a trade. This is difficult in Lamu and it would be too expensive to send them elsewhere which is why it is necessary to build classrooms for them.

With the help of “Project Sunrise”, we have started a Computer Classroom which is overcrowded with enthusiastic students.

Now we hope to build classrooms for learning English, cooking, electricity, plumbing, sewing and hairdressing which are the trades or knowledge most in demand on the Island.

Aid Programs

Aid to families in critical situations

The families living in misery on Lamu are joined by the refugees from the continent. They come with many children and few men, the women hardly speak Swahili, the local language, and can’t find work.

They need help urgently. Any help. Food to help them get through the worst days; milk for the undernourished children; improvements for their precarious dwellings which flood in the rains and are permanently invaded by insects and parasites; drinking water or sanitation of their settlements. As far as possible, we have to give them the means, which are humble but invaluable in this situation, to help them survive.

A few goats, some money to start a tiny business, a job in our organization. Now we have rented some land so that some can establish themselves and cultivate vegetables, fruit or flowers.

With 50 € a month you can guaranty a daily meal for a family of six.

With 325 € a month you can provide milk and nutritional cereal to a settlement of about 40 people, composed mostly of women and children.

With 1.000 € a month you can guaranty a daily meal to a settlement of 80 people as well as help improve their dwellings, build a well and install sewerage which will prevent the diseases mainly affecting children.

Food bank

The drought in Kenya is coupled with the recent political crisis and the wave of violence in the country. Famine has worsened due to the lack of basic foods, such as rice. Your contribution in this area is more necessary than ever.

Scholarships

Education is an essential chapter in our objectives but it is also costly. Even the students of primary education, which is technically free, have to pay for uniforms and books.

Secondary education costs about 30€ a month per student. Vocational training costs 50€ a month and the university costs an average of 1,500€ per year.

The training of our employees, which we believe vital for the smooth operation of our Shelter, should also be taken into consideration.

We have a fund for each stage:

Aid to the students of secondary education, vocational training, university studies and Scholarships for training of employees at the Shelter.

Donations

Any economic contribution, however small, will help us to keep our Shelter going and cover the basic needs of the boys and girls.
